NoMa Notes: POW! WOW! DC is Coming Back!

POW! WOW! DC is Coming Back!

Who’s ready for some fresh new murals around NoMa? The NoMa BID is excited to be working with POW! WOW! DC again to host DC’s 5th Annual POW! WOW! mural festival, October 8-18, 2020. To promote the health and safety of all artists and attendees, this year’s festival will be broadcast online with a limited number of socially distant walking tours to be offered onsite so that District art connoisseurs and arts-curious can get an up-close and personal look at each of the new artworks that will soon adorn the walls and streetscapes of NoMa. Stay tuned for more event details!
In the meantime, check out some of the artists you’ll see around NoMa in just a few weeks!

Another New Park Coming to NoMa!

We’re excited to share with you the news that yet another new park will be coming to NoMa, as we’ve purchased the vacant lot located at 1100 Third Street NE, which will become the future home of what we’re temporarily calling “Swampoodle Park II.” The acquisition should allow the creation of a 8,400 square foot public park — similar in size to the roughly 8,200 square-foot Swampoodle Park — to be owned by the District of Columbia government.
This purchase marks the final acquisition for the NoMa Parks Foundation, founded in 2012 to establish welcoming, sustainable, beautiful spaces where people can play, refresh and connect in NoMa, a formerly park-deficient neighborhood.
Celebrate the Halloween Season with us!

Just because we have to be socially distant, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate PumpkinPalooza! Join us for a hybrid of socially distant and virtual festivities from October 21-30 to celebrate the Halloween season in NoMa! This year, we’ll be hosting three pumpkin pick-up locations throughout NoMa where you can come and pick-up your FREE pumpkin, decorating supplies and fun goodies! Following the socially distant pumpkin pick-ups, we’ll host online pumpkin decorating and costume competitions.
Get Outside with Nature In NoMa

Ready to get out and breath a little fresh fall air? The NoMa BID is partnering with with Capital Nature to lead a series of socially distant walks to discover all the nature NoMa has to offer! Sign up for the first Live Neighborhood Nature Walk Observation this Saturday, October 3rd as spots are limited! This is a family friendly event so bring the kiddos!
Can’t join us this time? Not to worry, watch this short demonstration, Virtual Tools for Discovering Nature, so you can learn just how easy it is to discover nature in your own neighborhood!
