Enjoy spring at the U.S. National Arboretum during FONA's Flowering 5K. This run or walk will take you past garden collections brightly colored with spring flowers, over tree-lined rolling hills, and along streams winding their way to the Anacostia River. Enjoy cherry blossoms, magnolias, and so much more!

This race is not only scenic but also safe and secure. All roads are closed to cars during this race so you can safely enjoy running or walking through this 451-acre urban green space. A professional race announcer will call out runners as they cross the finish line and music will get you in the groove before and after the event.

Kids under 13 years old race for free, but registration is still required. Strollers and dogs are welcome, but dogs must stay on a 6' non-retractable leash.

The Gallaudet Dance Company is thrilled to present its 70th Spring Dance Concert, Family Reunion: Celebrating 70 Years of Dance. This landmark event is more than a performance - it’s a joyous celebration of the company’s legacy, its vibrant present, and its enduring dedication to the art of dance. Audiences will be captivated by an electrifying mix of dance styles, from jazz and hip-hop to K-pop, African dance, modern, country, and GDC signature fusion of American Sign Language (ASL) and dance. Choreographers presenting new dance works include: Brooke Roberts, Ashley Pigliavento, Tara Miles, Shaunflow Odom, and Nicholaus Nero. The show will feature special guest artists including the Gallaudet Alumni Dancers, Sign of Da’ Times, MotionZ, and Bison with Attitude. Behind the scenes, this production is a testament to the talent and dedication of Gallaudet University’s Theatre students, who are handling everything from light design to stage management and backstage crew. With its rich diversity of talent, styles, and stories, this 70th-anniversary is more than a performance - it’s a celebration of dance as a universal language of connection, creativity, and community. Join the U.S. National Arboretum for a day of engaging presentations about native plants, pollinators, and ecosystems during the 38th Annual Lahr Native Plant Symposium. Learn about supporting native pollinators, utilizing native plants in a historic estate garden, uses of preserved specimens from USNA’s Herbarium (demonstration included), species versus cultivars in regional trial gardens, backyard stormwater management, and foraging locally from this year’s slate of experts!

The Lahr Native Plant Symposium is perfect the home gardener. The symposium features seven expert speakers, and will take place in the Arboretum’s Visitor Center Auditorium. Lunch is included in the cost of registration.

The suggested registration cost is $95 (or $76 for FONA members), but please pay what you can to attend starting at $50. We want this educational program to be accessible to as many people as possible. The base fee of $50 covers the Arboretum’s costs to pay for speakers and lunches for all attendees. Any amount you pay over $50 directly supports the Arboretum’s Fern Valley Native Plant Collection.

Stop by FONA’s Native Plant Sale on Saturday, March 29th from 8 AM to 1 PM. This sale is held in conjunction with the National Arboretum’s Lahr Native Plant Symposium. You don’t need to attend the Symposium to shop the sale. But make sure to shop early! In the past, some vendors have sold out by lunchtime.

Our annual Native Plant Sale includes a small number of native plant vendors (~6 vendors) from across the mid-Atlantic region selling spring ephemerals and many other choice perennials and woody plants.
