Elon Musk’s Hyperloop: Coming to NoMa?

Yes, it’s true: Elon Musk and his big ideas are coming to NoMa. The dreamer of the Hyperloop — an enclosed, tubular, as-yet-unproven rail system that would transport people, cars, and freight at very high speeds, both above and below ground, including an incredibly short 29-minute journey between D.C. and New York — is also the owner of the Boring Company, a tunnel-digging business that recently received a permit from the District to do work at an empty parcel in NoMa along New York Avenue. Even Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted the news:

No one’s quite sure yet what it all means, but the news has received a lot of attention, as the list of select media hits below shows. And in late March, a new webpage appeared on the Boring Company website showing the proposed D.C.-to-N.Y. route and offering limited information on how it might work.

What’s next? We are as excited as you to find out. Who’s looking forward to lunch in Manhattan?
