Au Bon Pain Leases in DC’s NoMa Neighborhood

Washington, D.C., June 23, 2008… The NoMa (North of Massachusetts Avenue) Business Improvement District (BID) in Washington, D.C. is pleased to announce the neighborhood’s latest restaurant lease, Au Bon Pain. Au Bon Pain will open in the spring of 2009 in a 2,734-square-foot space within the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel now under construction at 1305 2nd Street, N.E. adjacent to the New York Avenue Metro stationMike Howard, senior director of brokerage of Rappaport Retail Brokerage, represented the landlord, the Robert Finvarb Companies in the lease transaction. Anastasia Kharchenko of Madison Retail Group represented Au Bon Pain.

Au Bon Pain is a casual French-themed bakery and café that primarily serves artisan breads, soups, sandwiches and coffee. Currently there are more than 226 locations worldwide.

Au Bon Pain joins a rapidly growing group of retailers along 2nd Street including Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Pound Coffee, Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, Sister’s Pizza & Mussels, and other restaurants. Pound Coffee is already open for business and other restaurants are expected to open shortly.

NoMa is an emerging mixed-use neighborhood north of the U.S. Capitol and Union Station in Washington DC. Private developers have invested approximately $1.5 billion to date with plans to develop over 20 million square feet of office, residential, hotel, and retail space in the area covered by the NoMa BID over the next 10 years. The BID provides daily street and sidewalk cleaning, safety ambassadors, marketing, events, and other services to make NoMa a clean, safe, and vibrant neighborhood for businesses, residents, and visitors.
