Café Phillips to Open in Fall in Washington, D.C.’s NoMa

Washington, D.C., July 20, 2009…Café Phillips, a popular gourmet deli restaurant known for its made-to-order sandwiches and fresh carving stations, will open its sixth store in Washington, D.C. in the rapidly developing NoMa (North of Massachusetts Avenue) neighborhood. Café owner Phillip Yun has leased 2,360 square feet of space on the ground floor of a new office building, 77 K Street, developed by Brookfield Properties and located at the corner of 1st and K Streets, N.E. The café will be open to the public in the fall, serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks from 7 am to 4 pm daily.

“We are pleased to welcome Café Phillips to NoMa, providing yet another distinctive and locally owned restaurant to serve NoMa’s many workers and visitors,” said Elizabeth Price, President of the NoMa Business Improvement District (BID). “Along with Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, Naples Sisters’ Pizza and Mussels, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Au Bon Pain, Pound Coffee, and others, NoMa is becoming a great place to live, work, play, and have lunch.”

77 K Street is a 326,000-square-foot building owned by Brookfield Properties and ING Clarion. It offers excellent access to Union Station and will have a total of nearly 17,000 square feet of ground-level retail space.

NoMa is a rapidly developing mixed-use neighborhood north of the U.S. Capitol and Union Station in Washington, D.C. In 2007-2008, private developers invested over $1 billion in the 35-block area covered by the NoMa BID, and have plans to develop more than 20 million square feet of office, residential, hotel, and retail space over the next ten years.
