WASHINGTON (WJLA) – Outdoors retailer REI will open a flagship store inside Uline Arena, the building in D.C.’s NoMa neighborhood where the Beatles played their first concert in the United States.
According to a story in The Washington Post, REI’s 51,000-square-foot store will open in late 2016 and will be the company’s first location inside the District. It will be the fifth REI flagship store nationwide.
The outdoor retailer’s arrival in NoMa joins a larger trend in Washington towards the neighborhood just north of Union Station. The Post reports that more than 5,000 people have moved into NoMa in the last three years and the average age of those new residents is a little over 30 years old.
