Washington, D.C., July 17, 2013 – Google is moving to NoMa in 2014! The technology giant signed a lease for 54,000 SF at Republic Square I, a 385,000 SF building at 25 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. The building is one block from Union Station and on the southern end of the NoMa Business Improvement District.
“Google is another bright light in NoMa’s media and technology constellation. We’re delighted to welcome them to the most connected neighborhood in DC,” said NoMa BID President Robin-Eve Jasper. Google joins several other large media organizations already in the NoMa neighborhood, including NPR, which moved into its new headquarters at 1111 North Capitol Street, NE in April, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, CNN, and CQ Roll Call.
The Google lease also signifies continued interest in the NoMa neighborhood by private-sector tenants. NeighborWorks America moved into its 65,000 SF national headquarters space at 999 North Capitol Street, NE, in May. Roughly 40,000 employees work in NoMa each day, and new residents are taking advantage of NoMa’s great apartments and transit connectivity, quickly leasing up the neighborhood’s new buildings. NoMa streets are busy day and night, making it hard to remember NoMa’s past as an industrial area. The new Walmart at 77 H Street, NW will open this fall, joining more than 25 retailers that have opened here in the last five years. Several other new retail leases are pending at this time.
