Lunchtime Concerts Enliven Summer Streetscape in NoMa

Washington, D.C., July 14, 2010 – The first year of Rhythm in NoMa, the popular lunch-time concert series, has been a smashing success with NoMa employees and neighbors. More than 200 employees dance, sway and sing each week at the New York Avenue Metro Station plaza.

The NoMa Business Improvement District kicked off the series in 2010 with 10 weeks of concerts, featuring local bands such as salsa phenom Sin Miedo, long-time blues artist Whop Frazier, Motown group Jimi Smooth and the Hittime. For a full line-up, visit nomabid.wpengine.com/rhythm.

“Rhythm in NoMa has been a huge hit with NoMa’s employees, and we are looking forward to tomorrow’s high-energy performance by Monster Band,” said NoMa BID President Liz Price. “This concert series has brought people together for fun and relaxation in the middle of a busy work week, with many employees returning week after week.”

Two shows remain in the series. Tomorrow, Monster Band returns with their funk/dance party tunes from the last three decades; singer Dari Ferguson’s crowd-pleasing performance had listeners bouncing in their seats at their first performance in NoMa on June 3. Thursday, July 22, the series ends with Karl Stoll & the Danger Zone, a four-piece house-rocking blues group. To see photos of past Rhythm in NoMa concerts, Flickr site.

The free event is held Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the north entrance of the New York Avenue Metro Station (Red Line), adjacent to the Courtyard by Marriott.

Rhythm in NoMa is organized by the NoMa BID. Interested in sponsoring next year? Contact Rachel Davis.
