NoMa Welcomes Five New Shops & Restaurants

Washington, D.C., February 18, 2010 – On the heels of a stellar leasing year in 2009, NoMa proudly announces five new retailers in Constitution Square, the neighborhood’s largest construction site and future home of Harris Teeter.

StonebridgeCarras, developer of Constitution Square, announced the signing of five key restaurant and retail leases that will join the 50,000 SF Harris Teeter grocery store scheduled to open later this year:

“Constitution Square is rapidly becoming the heart of this new neighborhood,” said BID President Liz Price. “These new restaurants and retailers will provide convenient and quality amenities to the 5,000 new employees moving to NoMa this year as well as residents of the 750 apartments delivering over the next few months.”

NoMa, the area north of Massachusetts Avenue, leased more than one million square feet in 2009, despite economic woes nationwide. In addition, three residential properties open in 2010, furthering the area’s transformation into a full-service neighborhood.

The first phase of Constitution Square, scheduled to deliver in 2010, will total 1.6 million SF of mixed-use space located adjacent to the New York Avenue Metro station at First and M Streets, NE. One Constitution Square has pre-leased 288,255 SF of its 330,000 SF of office space to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for headquarters swing space. Two Constitution Square has pre-leased all of its 575,000 SF of office space to GSA for Department of Justice offices. Constitution Square’s 80,000 square feet of street-level retail space is now 84 percent pre-leased to Harris Teeter and the five new retail tenants. Completing the project’s first phase will be a residential building with 440 apartment homes and a 204-key Hilton Garden Inn Hotel.

NoMa is a mixed-use neighborhood north of Massachusetts Avenue and the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Between 2007-2009, private developers have invested more than $1.5 billion in the 35-block area covered by the NoMa BID, and have plans to develop more than 20 million square feet of office, residential, hotel, and retail space over the next 15 years.
