Washington, D.C., August 20, 2008…Sierra Club, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization, plans to relocate its legislative office to the fast-growing NoMa (north of Massachusetts Avenue) neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Sierra Club has signed a purchase agreement for a new three-floor, 28,000 square foot office condominium space at 111 K Street, N.E. The building is under construction and occupancy is planned for 2010.111 K Street is a contemporary 11-story Class A office condominium being developed and sold by Washington, D.C.-based J Street Development and its partner. The 90,000 square foot building with Capitol views features a landscaped roof terrace that also serves as an element of the storm water management plan, an energy-efficient building system, and incorporates locally-sourced and recycled building materials.

“We are excited about the opportunity to be located in NoMa, an emerging ‘green’ neighborhood that will allow our workers to use public transportation and potentially live very near where they work,” said David Willett, Sierra Club National Press Secretary. “The new building will provide excellent work space along with great proximity to Capitol Hill.”

“NoMa is a perfect location for The Sierra Club,” said Elizabeth Price, President of the NoMa Business Improvement District. “All of NoMa’s new buildings, including 111 K Street, are incorporating best practices in green design. In addition, NoMa’s great public transportation and bicycle access will allow tenants and residents alike to reduce their carbon footprints.”

Recently, J Street Development sold its 165,000 square foot property at 1111 North Capitol Street, N.E. in NoMa to NPR. All of NPR’s 600 Washington-based journalism, multimedia, business and executive activities will be housed in this new facility, with occupancy planned for 2012.
