“The Ambassador team is a key facet of the BID’s comprehensive program designed to make NoMa clean, safe, and friendly for employees and visitors alike,” said Elizabeth Price, President of the NoMa BID.”Together with NoMa’s Clean Team that provides daily street and sidewalk cleaning services, the Ambassadors will ensure that everyone in NoMa feels welcome and safe.”
The Ambassador supervisor is Aaron McKeiver. He comes to NoMa from the Downtown BID, where he served as an Ambassador for over two years. The Ambassador assigned to Union Station is James Johnson, who was formerly a member of the NoMa BID’s Ready to Work Clean Team, where he was responsible for the Union Station area. The third Ambassador is Ibrahim Turayson, who has extensive experience as a parking and security guard for Federal workers in Southwest Washington, and is now responsible for the New York Avenue Metro station.
The Ambassadors have received training from the Metropolitan Police Department’s 1st District and from the D.C. Department of Mental Health’s Homeless Outreach Program. They also will be trained in first aid and CPR, and will being receiving training from the D.C. Department of Transportation in infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The Ambassador Team has been briefed on NoMa development project and plans, and works in close coordination with the Clean Team.
“The presence of our new Safety Ambassadors will be especially important when thousands of people come to NoMa starting on May 9 to attend Artomatic, Washington’s homegrown art extravaganza, at 1200 First Street, N.E. as well as the weekly James Bond Film Festival beginning May 8,” noted BID President Price.
